Weblog...

...was a term popularized by Jorn Barger on his blog robotwisdom.com. Over time this term was shortened to the simpler "blog". The word Blog was possibly first uttered by Dr. Suess in his story "Scrambled Eggs Super", but it's first use in the context of weblogging is largely credited to blogger Peter Merholz of peterme.com. In the beginning, early blogs such as Justin Hall's links.net were simply online diary websites that were updated manually (text entered between the
and
in html). Today, blogging tools have developed to make blogging accessible to just about anyone with a computer and Internet access. There are over 161,000,000 active blogs on the planet Earth and almost half of those are in the U.S.

The Purpose Of All of This...

To state it plainly, the main reason I created this website is to get my screenplays read. It's a way of getting them out there where the right set of eyes can fall upon them. When I decided that screenwriting would be my chosen track it occurred to me that it was the one aspect of film production that I had no idea how to break into (I guess I chose it because I'm zany). Five years later, that unfortunately hasn't changed. Doing google searches on selling screenplays will get you everything from "you need an agent" to "you need to find another profession." Most people in the know will tell you that sending out unsolicited screenplays to agents (I've done it) is frowned upon and a good way to waste money on shipping when you could just toss them in a dumpster for free. I have friends in the industry who are successful writers (maybe more like aquaintences) but they are strangely cryptic when it comes to advice. Some act like they're protecting some cosmic secret, others seem legitimately dumbfounded that they succeeded. So I figured I'd try the website route and see what happens (by the way, if I figure it out, I will shout it the heavens for all to hear unless there really is some secret pact).

Aside from that angle, I've always liked the idea of having a website and here was a good excuse to finally do it. I guessed it was a whole new form of expression that I've never explored and it turns out I was right. On one hand, it's a great place to present all the short films I've made over the years. Afterall, they weren't cheap (even though they may look it) and I had a lot of good people work very hard on them for no money. Why go through all of the bother if no one will ever see them? Heck, maybe it will light a fire under me to make more. Another benefit to having my own website is I now have a forum to spew all of the random crap that falls out of my head and doesn't fit into any of my other outlets. So, yay for me! I can also use it to do my miniscule part to perhaps bring your attention to the endeavors of my friends and aquaintances. It can be a whole lot of things, many of which I likely haven't even thought of yet. I have no idea. It's mine and I can do what I want. Exciting! -6/2011
