Best Short Film

The first Academy Awards for Best Short Film were awarded in 1932 at the fifth ceremony. Divided into categories for Best Short Comedy, Novelty and Animated Film (or Cartoon as it was titled until the forty-fourth ceremony in 1971), the winners were respectively: "The Music Box" (Producer, Hal Roach), "Wrestling Swordfish" (Producer, Mark Sennett) and "Flowers and Trees" (Producer, Walt Disney, who happens to hold the record for competitive Academy Award wins with 22). The Novelty category, which consisted mainly of documentary type films, was discontinued in 1936. The Best Documentary Short Subject got it's own category starting in 1941.

Short Visual Presentations

Here are some of the fancy short films that ZR Adams (that's me) has made over the years. We have everything from the self indulgent, auteurist student films to more mature (albeit barely) post college work. We even have the daring forays into the world of animation (they're daring in the same way that an actress going without make-up for a role is daring. So actually not daring at all). Watch and enjoy. They may make you laugh. They might even make you think.

*Note - The Best Short Film history stuff is just for fun, educational purposes. To be clear, Oscar has had nary the slightest thought of even sneezing in the direction of these films.
